TBILISI

Tbilisi is a city I know through much more than photography. I lived and worked there for many years, and it became a place of familiar streets, friendships and everyday life rather than somewhere I simply visited. After spending a year concentrating on photography in Seville, I returned to Tbilisi for several months to catch up with people and, this time, to photograph the city more deliberately.

It was fascinating to look again at somewhere I knew so well through a camera. I found myself drawn to the steep landscape, the old city rising above the Mtkvari River, its churches and balconies, and the way evening light transforms the hillsides and architecture. Tbilisi can feel ancient and contemporary at the same time, particularly after dark when its churches, fortress and streets begin to glow across the valley.

This collection is the result of those months, a photographic return to a city that had already been an important part of my life.
