Black & White Architectural PhotographyArchitecture is one of the subjects I return to most often in black and white. I am drawn to the way buildings organise space through line, shape, repetition and symmetry, and to how completely their character can change as light moves across stone, glass, steel or concrete.
Removing colour often allows me to concentrate more closely on those relationships. Strong sunlight can reduce an interior to light and shadow, while arches, columns, bridges and façades can become studies in geometry almost independent of the buildings themselves. At other times, softer light brings out texture and age, particularly in churches, cathedrals and historic architecture.
This collection brings together architectural photographs from many of the places I have worked and travelled, from Gothic cathedrals and Venetian colonnades to bridges and contemporary city structures, united by my interest in form, light and perspective.
