RUTLAND WATER

Rutland Water entered my photography through one particular subject: Normanton Church. On a visit to the area, I went out before dawn one morning and found the church sitting quietly beside the water as the first light began to appear.

What followed became almost a photographic study of a single place. As the light changed from blue hour through sunrise and into the early morning, the relationship between the church, water and sky continually shifted. At times the building became little more than a silhouette; at others, soft colour and reflection gave the scene an extraordinary sense of calm.

This collection is the result of that morning and my fascination with how one simple subject can offer so many different photographs when the light, viewpoint and atmosphere are allowed to change.
