COLLIOURE

Fine Art Photography of Collioure, France

Collioure was somewhere I discovered while spending a year based in Seville. I visited in winter, partly out of curiosity and partly because this small town on the French Mediterranean coast had such a strong reputation among artists and photographers. It turned out to be one of those places whose scale is part of its appeal.

Compact, colourful and wrapped around a sheltered harbour, Collioure was wonderfully quiet at that time of year. I was drawn to the changing light across the water, the boats resting in the bay and the warm colours of the old waterfront buildings, which seemed particularly striking against the softer winter skies.

It was a relatively short visit rather than a long photographic study, but Collioure stayed with me. There is something captivating about this small corner of the Mediterranean, and it is easy to understand why generations of artists have been drawn there.
