Durdle Door, Dorset
Durdle Door is one of the most familiar landmarks on the Dorset coast, but standing before it still feels quietly remarkable. I wanted this photograph to move beyond the familiarity of the view and preserve something of the experience of being there.
The long exposure softens the movement of the sea and sky, allowing the rock to hold its place with a sense of permanence. Its weathered form feels monumental, yet the open water and sweeping shoreline give the composition space to breathe.
For me, the photograph is about the meeting of movement and stillness: the sea continually reshaping the coast while the arch appears to endure. Rather than overwhelming the viewer with the spectacle of the landscape, the image offers a quieter encounter with it, inviting them to pause and enter the atmosphere of the scene.
