Salisbury Cathedral, Wiltshire, England
I made Evening Spire during a crisp, quiet evening in Salisbury, when the cathedral close had begun to empty and the last colour of the day lingered near the horizon. The air felt still, and the cathedral seemed to possess the landscape rather than simply stand within it.
What held my attention was the way the fading light moved through the scene. Warm illumination revealed the richness and age of the stone, while the spire rose into the cooler blue of the evening sky. The radiating clouds appeared to echo its upward movement, giving the building a sense of both permanence and lightness.
The curved path offers a quiet way into the photograph, inviting the viewer to approach and pause before this extraordinary building. Evening Spire is about that experience of looking: the scale of the architecture, the stillness surrounding it, and the sense of wonder that remains when daylight gives way to evening.
