Swanage, Dorset
The remains of Swanage’s old pier form a quiet rhythm across the water, their weathered timbers carrying the marks of time and tide.
I photographed the scene as the last warmth of the day settled along the horizon. A long exposure softened the movement of the sea, allowing the old structure to stand in stillness between the open water and the fading sky. What drew me was not simply the history of the pier, but its presence: fragile in appearance, yet enduring.
With the surrounding detail reduced, the image becomes a place of space, memory and quiet reflection. The scattered timbers lead the eye gently across the water, inviting the viewer into the calm of the scene.

Old Pier is produced as a museum-quality Fine Art Print on Aluminium Dibond with Hahnemühle Photo Rag, chosen to preserve the photograph’s delicate tonal transitions, soft evening colour and quiet atmosphere.
The fine-art paper is mounted directly onto 3 mm Alu-Dibond, giving the print a beautifully smooth, stable surface with a soft matte finish. The work is presented without a frame or white border, allowing the image to retain its clean, minimal character and subtle sense of openness.
