Claverton Down, Bath, Somerset
I found this solitary tree while walking across Claverton Down above Bath on a summer afternoon. What first drew me to the scene was the contrast between the tree’s bare, skeletal form and the enormous sky behind it.
The weather was changing quickly that day, with bands of cloud moving across the landscape and creating a strong sense of drama. I used a long exposure to soften that movement and stretch the clouds across the frame, allowing the stillness of the tree to stand in even greater contrast to the sky around it.
There is something both fragile and resilient about a tree standing alone in such an open landscape. Stripped of leaves, its structure becomes completely visible, almost like a drawing against the sky.
A Skeletal Tree is about that tension between permanence and change: the rooted stillness of the tree, the movement of the weather, and the quiet expanse of the countryside surrounding them.

The acrylic presentation enhances the sweep and luminosity of the blue sky, the warm golden tones of the field and the intricate structure of the solitary tree. The white motif border gives the image space to breathe, creating a clean visual separation between the photograph and its natural oak frame.
Each size is individually presented to suit its scale. The 60 × 40 cm edition is finished in a refined 15 mm Natural Oak Basel frame with a 3 cm motif border. The 90 × 60 cm and 150 × 100 cm editions use the more substantial 20 mm Natural Oak Hamburg frame, with a 5 cm border on the 90 × 60 cm edition and an 8 cm border on the 150 × 100 cm edition. This gradual increase in frame and border width gives the larger works greater presence while maintaining the same balanced, contemporary character.
