The Baths of María de Padilla, Real Alcázar, Seville
This is one of my favourite photographs, made beneath the Real Alcázar in Seville, within the quiet vaulted chambers of the Baths of María de Padilla.
What drew me to the scene was its extraordinary stillness. The repeating arches recede gently into the distance, while their reflections complete the architecture below, transforming the space into something almost dreamlike. A soft light enters at the far end of the chamber, revealing the warm tones of the stone before gradually giving way to shadow.
Having lived in Seville, the Real Alcázar became somewhere I returned to with a growing sense of familiarity, yet this hidden space always felt removed from the movement of the city above. In this moment, the water was perfectly calm and the symmetry seemed absolute.
For me, Vaulted Stillness is not simply a study of historic architecture. It is an image about silence, reflection and the feeling of standing somewhere in which time appears to have paused.

Vaulted Stillness is produced as a museum-quality Fine Art Print on Aluminium Dibond with Hahnemühle Photo Rag, chosen to preserve the photograph’s rich tonal depth, warm stonework and delicate transitions between light and shadow.
The soft, matte surface of Hahnemühle Photo Rag brings a quiet, tactile quality to the image. It retains the detail within the vaulted architecture while allowing the darker passages and subtle reflections to remain deep and atmospheric.
The print is mounted directly onto 3 mm Alu-Dibond, creating a beautifully smooth, stable presentation. It is displayed without a frame or white border, allowing the precise symmetry of the composition to remain uninterrupted. Aluminium rails fitted to the reverse provide a secure hanging system and enable the artwork to float subtly away from the wall.
