KYIV

I was fortunate to spend nearly three years living and working in Kyiv, a city that became very important to me and one I returned to photograph again and again. Built across hills above the Dnipro, Kyiv combines grand boulevards, remarkable churches and monasteries, extensive green spaces and the remarkable sense of big skies that I came to associate with the city.

My photographs explore both its celebrated architecture and the quieter atmosphere of the city, from the golden domes of St Sophia and Kyiv Pechersk Lavra to winter mist, evening light and views across the Dnipro. The changing seasons and often dramatic light gave familiar places a very different character from one day to the next.

This collection brings together some of my favourite photographs of Ukraine's remarkable capital.
