Fine Art Photography of London

London has been part of my life for much longer than it has been one of my photographic subjects. I went to university here and later spent many years working in the city and, like many Londoners, probably failed to appreciate quite how extraordinary it was while I was in the middle of it.

Bill Bryson wrote, “I can never understand why Londoners fail to see that they live in the most wonderful city in the world.” I understand exactly what he meant. London is endlessly varied: historic and modern, monumental and intimate, intensely urban yet remarkably green.

These days I tend to return with a camera. I am particularly drawn to London around the Thames, where the Gothic architecture of Westminster, St Paul’s and Tower Bridge sits alongside the glass and steel of the modern city. Early morning, twilight and long exposure allow me to quieten that energy for a moment and reveal a more atmospheric side of a city I have known for much of my life.
