THE AMALFI COAST

Fine Art Photography of the Amalfi Coast, Italy

The Amalfi Coast came into my photography in a much simpler way than some of the other places in these collections: I was there on holiday. It was somewhere I had wanted to experience, and once there it was almost impossible not to reach for the camera.

What fascinated me most was how dramatically the coast changed with the light. The intense colour and activity of the day could give way to much quieter early mornings, while at blue hour the towns began to glow against the darkening cliffs and Mediterranean. Being on the water also offered a completely different perspective, revealing just how improbably the buildings cling to the steep landscape.

These photographs, including a few from nearby Capri, are less a planned study of the coast than my response to being somewhere extraordinarily beautiful with a camera in my hand.
